Flag of the United Republic of East Africa

A flag for an upcoming map, this is the flag of the United Republic of East Africa, a successor to German East Africa that gained independence in 1964 when the Zanzibar Crisis came to an end by Zanzibar joining the regions of Tanganyika, Rwanda, and Burundi to form a single, united republic under one banner. 

Though independent, East Africa is much like Canada in that they still have economic, political, and cultural ties to Germany, who held on to the colony until peacefully letting it go in 1964 in exchange for certain duties and rights afforded exclusively to Germany.

The symbols of the flag include: a Black Teutonic Cross symbolizing the colony's German heritage and language as well as the black color of their people; stars arrange in the Southern Cross, representing East Africa's position in the southern hemisphere; a gold band around the cross representing the wealth of the East Africa people in economy and spirit; blue for the Indian Ocean as well as many lakes and rivers and the serenity that they bring; and green for the strength of the fertile land of East Africa that unites all its people.
