This is 2008. The USA got nuked after a minor incident when the USSR thought America was trying to nuke em...and so everyone fired nukes :I

I don't really know much about the backstory. The commissioner told me little and I did as I was told.

How did Gainesville become capital of Florida? That's an interesting choice!

This was a commission where the United States was nuked heavily in 1983. I guess it was the biggest city left, haha.

Small nitpick: Saguenay and Chicoutimi are too far north; the Saguenay river proper isn't inside its borders, and Chicoutimi should be along it.

I love the artistic style. Especially the shadow effect around the continent.

Hum I know it's not you (Toix) that did the Alternate History, but if somebody can explain to me how a lot of canadian and USA successor state came back together i would take it (since in my souvenir it was a lot more fragmented) :)

Basically Canada from an alternate timeline where it's more militarily and economically powerful (read: it still has carriers) has all the cities that were nuked in the DD-verse and all of its military assets teleported to the DD-verse. From there it's not too hard to bring the country back together, since there still is a fully functioning central government out of the newly-arrived Ottawa for not only the other brought-over regions but also the survivor states in the Pacific Northwest, the Great Lakes and New England to unite - the survivor states themselves see Canada as the best way of bringing prosperity back to their respective regions which explains their willingness to throw their lot in.

As for the US, basically Ottawa develops close relations with Torrington and they and some of the other survivor states take down raiders and outline a plan to reunify the remaining survivor states back under the Stars and Stripes, and it goes well. However the US is kinda playing second fiddle to Canada now since they have a less intact infrastructure and economy, so while they're still a major power Canada has eclipsed them as the North American superpower.

Considering the population sizes involved, it's more like "I'm surprised that the northern coastal states were able to annex all of Canada like that".

Well, I guess it would be different if all the biggest American metropoli were wiped out...

No, they didn't. That is Canada.

America and the rest of the world had a Nuclear War in 1983. The Canada in this map came from a world where that didn't happen, and where Canada is a super power. Not sure when the Snapshot of this map is exactly, but it is in the 2000s.

Canada helped the northern states and they joined Canada, or Canada took them over to save them.

How far down the timeline is this?

Also, a bit surprised Utah joined the New USA and that Superior joined Canada.

Finally, the Great Lakes are united.

What? How come the northern states have suddenly turned nationalistically "canadian" out of a sudden? How come nobody wants to restore the old union?
i guess massive nuclear exchange can cause a few weird things...
(a very well done map, anyway! :D )
also, what year is this map situated in?

Considering that this scenario actually involves an ISOT it shouldn't be as surprising as you'd think.

Also, there are loons willing to restore the Union beyond the CRUSA. No spoilers, but you really should read the TL to fully understand and appreciate the lengths to which they'd go to do so.

Given how frightfully fragmented the scenario leaves the post-war US, vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/a… this is probably the optimistic option. :)

Eh.
But i still don't know how they simply "lost" their way of seeing themselves as proper 'muricans.

Well the states you see here that are controlled by Canada willingly joined because Canada could protect them, provide for them and all of that.

You would need to read the timelines ToxiStory linked in the description.

Those states now are more Canadian than American anyway; remember the Jesusland/United States of Canada map? Hell, I wouldn't mind if this is 2020 OTL.
